Thinking about waxing your male parts? Whether it’s your first time having hair removed from "down there"—or from anywhere—this guide to male waxing will help you prepare and feel more confident about the process.

Why Get a Male Brazilian Wax?
Male waxing is becoming increasingly popular for a range of reasons. Some people do it for hygiene and comfort. Others do it because they prefer the look of being smooth and hairless down there. Many choose a Brazilian wax because they are tired of shaving and the irritation it can cause. Waxing offers longer-lasting smoothness compared to shaving and reduces the risk of ingrown hairs. Whatever your motivation, the end result is greater physical confidence and comfort.
What Exactly is a Male Brazilian Wax?
A male Brazilian wax (sometimes called a 'Manzilian') involves removing hair from the pubic region, including the front, scrotum, perineum, between the bum cheeks, and often the buttocks. You can customise your waxing preferences—whether you want all hair removed or leave some in specific areas.
What does X, XX and XXX Signify on Your Waxing Menu?
The number of Xs indicate how much hair is removed. With a XXX Brazilian wax all of the hair is removed from the entire pubic region (see above). With an XX Brazilian wax, some hair is left at the front (a "landing strip"). A single X represents a bikini wax—only hair outside of the bather bottoms or underpants line is removed. A bikini wax is usually combined with a leg wax.
Does Male Waxing Hurt?
Let’s be honest—there is some discomfort, especially the first time. But you're in safe hands. I'm a professional beauty therapist with 20+ years of experience in male waxing, so I know what works and use only the best products. Many clients report that it is less painful than they expected and that the results are worth it. Furthermore, if you keep up a waxing regime, you'll find that the hair grows back finer and softer over time, resulting in less discomfort as you go.
How to Prepare for Your Waxing Session
To ensure a smooth waxing experience, follow these simple steps:
Let your hair grow
If you have been shaving or trimming your pubic area, leave some weeks before your waxing appointment to ensure the hair is at least 5mm long (about the length of a grain of rice) for the wax to grip properly. One centimetre of length is ideal.
Exfoliate beforehand
Removing dead skin cells can help to reduce the incidence of ingrown hairs. One to two days before your appointment—not directly before it—use a wash cloth to lightly scrub the area.
Stay hydrated
Hydrated skin is softer and more supple, so drink plenty of water before your session. It's best to avoid waxing after drinking alcohol or when your body is likely to be dehydrated. Dehydration makes your skin less flexible and, therefore, more sensitive.
Shower
Come to your appointment freshly showered and wearing clean underwear. As well as ensuring you are clean, it will help to hydrate your skin.
Wear loose clothing
With the hair removed, your skin will now be in direct contact with your clothes, so it might feel a bit weird down there afterwards. Wearing comfortable, breathable fabrics will help the newly smoothed area breathe and prevent irritation.
What Happens During the Appointment?
Arrive at your appointment
I will discuss your waxing preferences, any concerns, and your desired level of hair removal.
Undress
I will leave the room while you undress and then cover yourself with a towel.
Cleansing & preparation
The area will be cleansed and a light application of powder or oil will be applied to protect your skin.
Waxing begins
I will explain the order and process in advance. Using professional-grade wax, the hair will be removed in sections.
After waxing
When your waxing is complete, a soothing moisturiser is applied to calm the skin and reduce any redness.
What Happens if I Get an Erection?
The neurons in the genital area are sensitive to touch, which can trigger an automatic physical response, including an erection. Nervousness can also affect blood pressure. An erection is a natural reflex and no big deal. My focus as a professional beauty therapist is to ensure a thorough waxing result through minimal and only necessary touching—think of it like having a medical skin check.
Aftercare Tips for Male Waxing
Avoid hot showers, saunas, and intense workouts for 24-48 hours to prevent irritation
Wear loose clothing to let your skin breathe and get used to coming in direct contact with fabric
After 48 hours, start a daily regime of exfoliation with a wash cloth (or exfoliant scrub) and moisturiser to prevent ingrown hairs
Avoid touching or scratching the area to reduce the risk of irritation or infection
Final Thoughts
It's natural to feel nervous about waxing your privates for the first time. You might think that it's something only kinky or "body-beautiful" people do. That's not the case at all. The majority of male waxing clients do it for cleanliness and comfort and, as an added bonus, they experience greater body confidence. Most clients find that the results—smooth skin, longer regrowth times, and improved hygiene—are well worth it!
